Medical Marijuana

The Cannabis Caucus of the Michigan Democratic Party endorses our Campaign!

I am grateful to the Cannabis Caucus of the Michigan Democratic Party for endorsing my campaign to win the MI-06 Congressional District seat and represent the people rather than the donors. Ending the antiquated and racist prohibition of cannabis is a social justice, medical, and economic issue. I will work to de-schedule cannabis, end discriminatory incarceration, provide much-needed medical treatment to veterans and all Americans, and create small business opportunities.

Marijuana Policy Statement

Today, MILegalize turned in its ballot signatures to bring state legalization of marijuana to the voters of Michigan in 2018.

I support the MILegalize ballot initiative and as your Congressional representative, I will push to deschedule marijuana at the federal level. Once we achieve this progressive victory, we will move to end the discriminatory enforcement of marijuana laws that send so many people of color to prison, invest in research to uncover even more medicinal benefits from marijuana, and create hundreds of thousands of new jobs for small businesses across the country.

Medical Marijuana Licensing in Kalamazoo

Monday night we attended the special work session of the Kalamazoo City Commission to provide input on the issue of medical marijuana. This is real treatment for a number of serious medical conditions plaguing our communities, and it is proving effective as a weapon in the fight against opioid addiction and overdose. The opioid crisis is real, it's serious, and it's something we need to start talking about more openly.

From the article: "'Let's make sure were talking about this as a medical treatment,' said Democratic Congressional candidate David Benac. 'Marijuana can be a way to combat opioid addiction in this community. I'd like to see us earmark some of this money for that cause.'"
